The epic story of how Jimmy Crew was born,
Two years ago a couple of buddies and I got together and started playing music in the area. While I was vigorously
rehearsing to play at Riverboat Days 2001, I got a lead to play for the Trailer Trash Bash in Running Water, SD. Both Riverboat Days and the T T B were a great success. I was left basking in the glow of local success.
I felt I finally had arrived! Then as fate would have it , Warped Outlook (formerly
Don't Rock the Jukeboxx (see link above) parted its ways and I was left continuing my newly created Solo act,
Jimmy Crew. Now I have been playing music most of my life at parties, for church
services, attending open mics and jamming with local groups as much as possible, but this time the fever really took hold. Call it a Mid-Life Crisis or whatever you may music is a fun, creative outlet for
me. The crowd response has always been positive and I thank you for it.
After being laid off for the second time by Gateway computers November 2002 , I seized an opportunity to really channel
my talents and energies to playing music. After hours and hours of practice, I hit the road in December with flyers in hand
to book some gigs. New Years Eve at the Yankton Bowl, later at Mistys Saloon in Verdigre, The Dew Drop Inn in Verdel, Sportsmens
in Niobrara. The Taking Nebraska by Storm Tour
was on! To be honest with you I was as surprised as any one. I hustled and practiced and managed to keep myself busy every weekend January through March when I decided
to take a break. During those three months I discovered that playing solo is very hard work.
Its you a guitar and a microphone. No band, no back up and all the set
up and tear down are left to you. I took a needed break in April. After sending
out flyers earlier this summer, I received two great responses. The Mayfield Store Grand Opening, Irene, SD and the Moose
Lodge in Yankton.
Well I am getting geared up to play Riverboat Days this weekend for the second year in a row. I have been working on a whole bunch of new songs. This past year I have purchased over $1,500 in sound
equipment including a killer BOSS Drum/ Rhythm Machine programming it like mad with Country, Swing, Rock and Blues mixed
in with all my tasteful acoustic songs and originals. By the way Riverboat Days was a roaring success. I played for a standing room only crowd for the entire two hour set. It was awesome!
So in the future if you are looking for a
night of Mellow Acoustic, Retro Rock or Dueling Blues Guitars or if you are satisfied with Karaoke thats ok. My new sound
system will more than handle Mobile DJ and Karaoke functions too. But if you
want an evening of Upbeat Country, Rock, Blues and Swing Dance music by one the best Harmonica players and Singers in the
area, call me
Jimmy
Crew.
I
look forward to playing for you soon.
